Clear Polyester Film Tape

Model # 5

A 2.5 mil. electrical tape consisting of both polyester film backing and oil-compatible acrylic adhesive primarily used for transparent masking applications. Tape 5 is a single-coated tape that features an adhesive system which offers resistance to most common cleaning solvents. To achieve UL and CSA Recognition, tape 5 construction must meet UL and CSA specifications and conditions of acceptability for proper and safe use of the component or product.

Printed and Unprinted Antistatic Utility Tape

A 2.2 mil. anti-static utility tape consisting of transparent polyester film backing and acrylic adhesive primarily used for office and clean room applications. 40 tape represents a breakthrough in PSA tape technology. This new tape, generates less than 50volts on unwind and removal from stainless steel and helps prevent ESD damage to sensitive electronic components in manufacturing environments. This anti-static utility tape can be used at static-safeguard workstations as part of the total static control program. It generates very low levels of static charge, even in dry conditions of 10%R.H. 40 tape is printed on the adhesive side with the 3M logo and the ESD protective symbol.

Polyester Web-Reinforced Film

A 5.5 mil. electrical tape consisting of polyester film backing and thermosetting rubber adhesive primarily used for stick-wound coils/ transformers and in bobbin-wound coils. For maximum solvent resistance and holding properties, the tape should be thermoset at: 1hour for 300°F/ 2hours for 275°F or 3hours for 250°F.

Splicing Tape

Model # 405

405 is a 3mil, repulpable, double-coated tape, primarily used for overlaping splices in cellulosic materials. It is tissue coated on both sides with a light green repulpable adhesive. Sealed plastic bags help assure constant moisture content of unused tape. Adhesion to paper increases after short dwell time. Water solubility and alkali dispersability are excellent and eliminate danger of contaminating the paper mill broke by non-repulpable material.

431 is a 3.1 mil, aluminum foil tape. It is primarily used for many permanent sealing, holding, splicing or masking applications requiring the protection offered by a foil backing.

Double Coated Film Tape

A 5.0 mil. double coated tape featuring R-40 rubber adhesive with a polyester backing used for bonding similar/ dissimilar materials, such as metals, papers, paints and most plastics. R-40 is a pressure-sensitive, medium-firm rubber-resin adhesive system. It features good hloding power to a wide variety of materials including most plastics. 443 tape is not recommended for direct exposure to sunlight or other sources of ultra violet light.

Vinyl Tape

Model # 472

3M472 is a 10.4 mil. tape consisting of vinyl backing with a pigmented rubber adhesive for abrasion protection and many outdoor weathering applications. Best results are attained when applied to a clean and dry surface at temperatures between 60°F to 80°F. Thick backing is ideal where heavy abrasion resistance is anticipated. Temperature resistance to 225°F. Pigmented adhesive will stain some surfaces. Testing by the user is recommended to determine suitability in the proposed application. While 472 tape resists most common solvents, care should be taken to avoid ketones, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and esters, found in lacquer thinners, degreasers, paint strippers, etc. which cause the backing to swell or curl. To obtain best tape performance, use within 12 months from date of manufacture and store under normal conditions of 60°F to 80°F and 40% to 60% relative humidity in the original carton.

Performance Masking Tape

Damping Aluminum Foil Sheet

4014 is a 25mil, open cell polyurethane foam tape, primarily used for plastic or metal contact with materials that can result in potentially damaging vibration. It has an aluminum constraining layer on one side and a pressure sensitive adhesive on the opposite side to facilitate attachment to the surface of the vibrating panel. The adhesive is protected by an easy-release liner.

Single Coated Foam Tape

4104 is a 250 mil. urethane foam tape belonging to the 4100 series which are natural-white, firm, high-density, open-cell foam with pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side. The acrylic adhesive offers high initial quick stick to many types of surfaces along with excellent shear strength and high temperature performance. The adhesive is protected by a 3 mil white silicone treated paper liner. The urethane foam’s open cell design offers excellent cushioning characteristics while allowing air or gas vapors to pass through. This product is used primarily for coding, sealing and identification applications. Skip slitting is also used for roll stability on these narrow sizes. This urethane tape may turn yellow when exposed to light, however, this does not effect the physical performance of the tape. 4104 tape adheres to a variety of substrates, including latex painted wood, lacquered wood, enameled steel, glass, aluminum, stainless steel, acrylic, ABS and PVC (non-plasiticized). The tape adhesion is typically satisfactory within 20 minutes and continues to build with additional time. The solvent/fuel resistant test consists of visual observations of tape bonded to steel panels and immersed totally in solvent/fuel for 24 hours.

Double Coated Paper Tape

A 5.0 mil. double coated rubber tape with 850 paper adhesive ideal for bonding a wide variety of similar and dissimilar materials such as rubbers, metals, woods, glass, papers, paints and many plastics. This tape has also been recognized by the Technical Association for Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) for many years. Paper mills continue to utilize these tapes for testing the internal strength (Z-Directional Tensile Test) of thier papers. Product 410 is not recommended for direct exposure to sunlight or other sources of ultra violet light. 850 is a medium firm rubber adhesive system that offers an excellent balance and good holding power to a wide variety of materials. The paper carrier has been specially treated to improve its strength and clean removalbility characteristics from high internal strenth surfaces. Tape 410 meets the U.S. government spec. A-A-180C, Type 2, Class 1 and 2.

3M4408 is a 1/8″, double coated, vinyl foam tape. It is designed for general purpose mounting and joining, and may offer one piece removal in some applications.

Double Coated Polyethylene Foam Tape

Model # 4466

A 62.0 mil. double coated polyethylene foam tape with 745 rubber adhesive ideal for joining, mounting, gasketing and sealing applications involving irregular surfaces. 4466B tape combines a conformable closed cell foam with a rubber adhesive that provides high initial adhesion to a variety of surfaces including polyethylene and polypropylene. 745 is a rubber, pressure-sensitive adhesive that provides excellent initial tack and adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces, including many low surface energy plastics. Solvent splash testing cycle = 20 seconds submersion and 20 seconds air dry through 3cycles. Bond strength is dependent upon the amount of adhesive-to-surface contact developed. Firm application pressure helps develop better adhesive contact and improved bond strength. To obtain optimum adhesion, the bonding surfaces must be clean, dry and well unified. Typical surface cleaning solvents are isopropyl alcohol and water (rubber alcohol) or water. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s precautions and directions for use when using cleaning solvents. Initial tape application to surfaces below 50°F is not recommended because the adhesive becomes too firm to adhere readily. General Purpose PTFE Glass Cloth Tape

5153 is a 6.8 mil. easy unwind glass cloth tape impregnated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and coated with a silicone adhesive which provides high temperature resistance and a very strong, abrasion-resistant backing. Very low moisture absorption allows the tapes to perform in many humid environments. 5153 tape provides tensile strength and resistance to tear and puncture than typical PTFE film backed tapes. CAUTION: when PTFE film tape is exposed to temperatures above 400°F, small quantities of hazardous vapors may be released. Inhalation of these vapors may be harmful or may cause respiratory tract irritation. Do not heat or expose PTFE film tape to temperatures above 400°F.
